Meet Pops and the Story of Marshie

Jeff Rainey "Pops" currently lives in Arrington, Tennessee

Marshie was born nearly 40 years ago one evening as I was ordered by my first born to tell her a story as she was being put to bed. “Tell me a story Daddy”, she demanded. “Well, go get me a book”, I responded. “No Daddy, I don’t want a book. Tell me a story.”

Not wanting to disappoint her, I suddenly started telling her a story about a little creature named Marshie the Martian. I don’t remember how my initial attempt ended that night; however, I do know that I was asked almost every night for what seemed like years to tell her the story of Marshie the Martian.

Telling the story repeatedly it grew and there were many additional elements added to the story like shaking her as Marshie scared the townspeople and screaming “AHHHH!” at the top of my lungs. She laughed and giggled as the story became a traditional end to her day and an event that I looked forward to every night.

As the years passed, we talked about this story and even discussed working together to make it into a book. However, we all know how such things go with the busyness of life.

So here we are – 40 years later.

I hope you enjoy our little story of Mashie and his adventures to this strange little place called Earth.
